Touch the Light.....

Landscape and Environmental Photography from Scotland

This site was built by myself - and I have to confess I am an absolute novice at web design and construction, and this is my first attempt. When I decided I wanted a site I tried several pieces of software and got very very disheartened - too complex, too difficult or just completely dense and impenetrable. Then I discovered Freeway on the web and downloaded the Version 1.0.2 from Softpress Systems Limited. This is a free version of the fully working programme and I have to say it was a revelation for me. The basic site construction technique is DTP based with WYSIWYG functions so it is relatively easy to master. There is no complicated HTML to worry about as the software converts your layouts to HTML when it is 'published' for web use. You can 'preview' the site as you build it and the Freeway software activates your browser software to view it in, to give you an accurate idea of what it will look like when net ready. It may not have the functions of Dreamweaver but the Freeway software was intuitive and most importantly it was free! Within a short period I had obtained the later and more efficient Freeway V3 and had a site up and ready. Thank you Softpress!

The computer used was a UMAX Apus 2000, PPC 603e 240., Scanner was a modest Epson GT7000 Photo (with small tranny hood). Scans all done at 72dpi.

I have tried to maintain the colour fidelity of the original transparencies. I have adjusted the contrast on most images, and used 'sharpen' and 'sharpen edges' filters in Photoshop. I am aware that the scans are probably not perfect but I am wary of putting perfect (and therefore very usable) images online for people to download. If you find any obvious errors or have any suggestions I might benefit from please let me know!
